On Friday, the whole school gathered to remember those who had given up their lives and made sacrifices during war and armed conflicts.
Each child decorated a poppy which was used as part of our whole-school display.
In order to help us to understand the sacrifice that people made, the children read war poetry.
Reception & Year 1
I’ll wear a little poppy, As red as red can be,
To show that I remember
Those who fought for me.
Year 2 & Year 3
Remember those who served before
Remember those who are no more
Remember those who serve today
Remember them all on Remembrance Day.
Year 4 & Year 5
For the fallen
Laurence Binyon
They shall not grow old, as we that are left grow old,
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them.
Year 6
In Flander’s Fields
John McCrae
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie,
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.
