Letter – Start Small Dream Big
Water Safety with the Royal National Lifeboat Institution
Being Safe: As our school is close to the River Tyne and not so far away from the seaside, we are regularly visited by the Royal National Lifeboat Institution. They run assemblies for all pupils, explaining how to stay safe when close to water and what to do in the case of an emergency.
African Drumming
Including All: As a way of celebrating our growing school community, our whole school has taken part in African drumming assemblies and workshops.
Pets
To Care: Pupils have opportunities to care for class pets and animals, such as – tadpoles/frogs, chicks, caterpillars/butterflies, fish and even hamsters!
Careers Education – Start Small, Dream Big
Aim High: Our school is taking part in the “Start Small, Dream Big” initiative. The programme is designed to – raise aspirations, reduce stereotypes and increase the awareness primary-aged children have of the world of work.
Big Science
Aim High: All of our pupils from Nursery to Year 6 take part in fun, hands on workshops ran by Big Science. The sessions promote STEM based learning, through engaging experiments.
Drumming
Aim High: Key Stage 2 pupils get to take part in regular drumming sessions with Mr Bird. They finish off the year by performing their skills in front of a live audience.
Archaeology Workshops
Aim High: Key Stage 2 pupils get to take part in archaeology workshops with AB Heritage.
Police Officer Visits
Aim High: All pupils from Nursery to Year 6 have been visited by local police officers. They have considered the knowledge and skills required to be a police officer and have been thinking about whether or not they would like to be police officers when they grow up.
NSPCC Speak Out, Stay Safe Programme
Being Safe: Many pupils have been visited by the NSPCC. The aim of the sessions is to help children understand abuse in all its forms and to support children in recognising the signs of abuse. Pupils are taught to speak out if they are worried, either to a safe adult or Childline.
